Estimulación cognitiva a través de terapia física en paciente con Alzheimer: revisión sistemática

Resumen

La enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA) es una enfermedad neurodegenerativa progresiva, caracterizada por la acumulación de placas de proteína beta-amiloide en el cerebro, dando como resultado en el deterioro cognitivo y funcional de los pacientes. La terapia física, que tradicionalmente se ha utilizado para tratar trastornos musculares, ha demostrado ser efectivo para estimular la cognición, convirtiéndose así en una alternativa para su tratamiento. De modo que el objetivo de este artículo es determinar los beneficios de la terapia física como estimulador cognitivo en pacientes con EA. Este estudio realiza una revisión sistemática de la literatura disponible en PubMed, SciELO, Elsevier, Google Académico y PEDro, incluyendo un total de 14 artículos, se analizaron diversos protocolos de intervención física y su impacto en la cognición. Los resultados respaldan la eficacia de la terapia física después de reflejar cambios significativos y prometedores en la cognición global, memoria, atención, función ejecutiva y lenguaje, después de haber intervenido con ejercicios aeróbicos, ejercicios de fuerza, programas multimodales y yoga. En conclusión, el estudio confirma que la terapia física es una estrategia viable y potencialmente efectiva para estimular la cognición en pacientes con Alzheimer, además se resalta su importancia para mejorar la calidad de vida en esta población.
