Metagenómica en el diagnóstico y seguimiento de enfermedades inflamatorias intestinales

Resumen

La enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal (EII) es un trastorno crónico que se caracteriza por presentar inflamación en estructuras del sistema digestivo. En este contexto, la metagenómica se ha consolidado como una herramienta útil en el diagnóstico y seguimiento de la EII, dado que se encarga en estudiar la secuenciación del ADN microbiano de una comunidad, logrando determinar sus linajes y genes microbianos; así como componentes proteicos tanto en la comunidad de los microorganismos como en su red metabólica. Objetivo: Evaluar la mejor evidencia científica disponible acerca del rol de la metagenómica en las enfermedades inflamatorias intestinales. Método: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica durante el periodo 2012-2025 mediante la utilización del método PRISMA. Resultados: La mayoría de estudios evidencian modificaciones frecuentes en la microbiota intestinal de pacientes con EII. En las comunidades bacterianas, existió una reducción de Faecalibacterium prausnitzii y un incremento de Escherichia coli adherente-invasiva, mientras que, otras investigaciones indicaron una estrecha relación entre los perfiles metagenómicos y su utilidad en el pronóstico y seguimiento clínico de la enfermedad. Conclusión: La metagenómica ha permitido comprender de manera significativa las EII, lo que ha identificado rasgos específicos como: la disbiosis, modificación de rutas metabólicas y biomarcadores diagnósticos de la EII.
