Abstract

This article evaluates the geometric design of urban roads in the María José subdivision, located in Jipijapa Canton, Ecuador, addressing accessibility, safety, and mobility issues caused by the poor condition of existing roads. Using a descriptive and exploratory approach, the study incorporates topographic surveys and vehicular traffic analysis, supported by advanced tools like Civil 3D and compliance with NEVI-12 (2013) and MOP 2003 standards. Results reveal significant improvements in road transitability, safety, and design sustainability. Key technical parameters, such as minimum curve radii and moderate slopes, ensure the design’s adaptability to local conditions and alignment with international standards. Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of monitoring the design's impact, adapting to traffic growth, and integrating environmental considerations in future interventions. This model provides a replicable solution for urban areas with similar characteristics, contributing to sustainable urban planning.
