Alterations in the thyroid profile and its relationship with the lipid profile in patients treated at the CliniLab laboratory.

Alterations in the lipid profile are part of a group of chronic diseases; however, they are not communicable. They are mainly characterized by abnormal serum levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, or both. Thyroid hormones play an important role in human brain maturation. Thyroid hormone production is a tightly regulated and controlled process through a classic negative feedback loop involving the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and thyroid, commonly known as hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis. The objective of this study was to determine alterations in the thyroid profile and their relationship with the lipid profile in patients treated at the CliniLab laboratory from 2023 to 2024. The methodology was descriptive, observational, quantitative, and retrospective with a cross-sectional design, and included a total 150 patients. The results showed that the majority of patients presented normal levels of TSH, T3, fT3, T4, and fT4, corresponding to 59.3%, 80.7%, 68%, 87.3%, and 86% respectively. Regarding the lipid profile, total cholesterol levels were completely in all patients, while HDL levels were decreased in 96% of cases, and LDL and triglyceride levels were normal in 51.3% and 83.3% of patients, respectively. Finally, the chi-square indicated that there was no statistically significant relationship between the study variables. It was conclusion that the alteration in thyroid profile levels were not due to the lipid profile, considering possible factors such as medications, intercurrent illnesses, or special physiological situations.
