Abstract

Objective: To analyze recent scientific evidence on the influence of healthcare and administrative processes on pediatric patient safety, considering the main strategies implemented to prevent adverse events and improve the quality of care in healthcare settings.

Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted through a structured search of scientific publications addressing pediatric patient safety and healthcare and administrative processes. Studies published between 2021 and 2025 were considered and identified through recognized academic scientific databases. After applying the established selection criteria, 20 studies were included for the analysis of the available evidence.

Results: The findings showed that medication-related errors remain one of the main risks for pediatric patients due to the need to adjust medication doses according to variables such as weight, age, and clinical condition. Strategies identified as contributing to risk reduction included the use of standardized protocols, double-checking procedures, and the implementation of clinical guidelines based on scientific evidence. In addition, nursing professionals were found to play an essential role through continuous monitoring, timely identification of risks, and implementation of preventive measures. From an administrative perspective, continuous training, internal audits, quality management, and the strengthening of an institutional safety culture were associated with improved conditions for safe pediatric care.

Conclusions: Pediatric patient safety depends on the integration of healthcare activities with administrative management focused on risk prevention and continuous improvement. Strengthening protocols, providing ongoing staff training, and promoting the active participation of nursing professionals are important elements for reducing adverse events and ensuring safe, timely, and evidence-based care.
