Seroprevalence of Toxoplasmosis and impact on obstetric complications in pregnant women treated at the San Isidro Maternal and Child Center, period 2023

Toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection, can have adverse consequences during pregnancy. The objective of this study was to evaluate the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis and impact on obstetric complications in pregnant women treated at the San Isidro Maternal and Child Center, period 2023. A retrospective study was carried out using data obtained from the institution's obstetrics area program. The results showed that the IgG antibody obtained a frequency of 9%, due to previous exposure to the parasite, the IgM antibody obtained a lower frequency of 3%, while the majority of pregnant women have a negative result for both antibodies (88 %). Among the most relevant complications that were obtained were lymphadenopathy, weakness and headache (2%). Among the relationship of seroprevalence with complications, headache predominated in the IgG antibody in 4 pregnant women, abortion and lymphadenopathy occurred in the IgM antibody in one pregnant woman, in total 14 complications were evident in relation to the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis. In conclusion, this study highlighted the importance of early detection and specialized care for HIV-positive pregnant women, in order to reduce the risk of complications and promote healthy outcomes for the mother and baby during and after pregnancy.
