Clinical and molecular characterization of Cellular Digital Fibroma: practical case

Cellular Digital Fibroma (CDF) is a benign neoplasm that occurs most frequently in the fingers and toes. Its clinical diagnosis was based on the observation of a small, slowly growing, and generally painless nodular lesion. Although FDC is considered a benign tumor, its exact origin and the molecular mechanisms underlying its development are still not fully understood, posing a challenge for both differential diagnosis and clinical management. In this work, the clinical and molecular characterization of FDC was addressed through a practical case detailed in this research. The most representative clinical findings were analyzed, such as the usual location of the lesion, its size and texture, and possible associated complications. Additionally, key histological markers, such as fibroblast proliferation and collagen accumulation in the stroma, were explored. From a molecular perspective, alterations in specific cellular pathways were discussed, such as pathways related to fibroblast proliferation and cell signaling that were involved in the growth of these lesions. The possibility that certain genetic factors influenced the appearance of these tumors was also considered, which opened the door to future research on targeted treatment.
