COVID-19 disease is caused by SARS-CoV-2, a pathogenic and highly transmissible single-stranded RNA virus. It rapidly went from an epidemic to a worldwide pandemic spreading at alarming levels. SARS-CoV-2 infection significantly affects the respiratory system, but can involve other systems, including the hematopoietic system and homeostasis, as well as causing various alterations in hematological and biochemical parameters. The general objective of this study was to identify variations in hematological and biochemical parameters in SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients treated at the Jipijapa Health Center. The methodology was based on a cross-sectional descriptive design, using a sample of 306 patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2. The results showed hematological alterations such as low hemoglobin levels, leukocytosis, lymphopenia, neutrophilia and thrombocytopenia; in the biochemical parameters, alterations in glucose and liver enzymes were observed. LDH and CRP also presented values above the normal range. These variations were more significant in the group of patients positive for SARS-CoV-2 (p<0.05). In conclusion, the results of this study highlight the importance of monitoring these parameters in patients infected by this virus, since they can be considered as indicators of disease progression and severity.
