Parasitosis as a cause of anemia in children under 10 years of age treated at the Shushufindi social responsibility center

Intestinal parasitic infections are a serious public health problem worldwide, especially in tropical and subtropical areas. On the other hand, anemia occurs when there is insufficient production of hemoglobin in the body to transport oxygen to organs and tissues. In most cases, parasitosis is one of the causes of anemia in the child population. The objective of the research was to analyze parasitosis as a cause of anemia in children under 10 years of age treated at the Shushufindi Center for Social Responsibility. As a methodology, a descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective, non-experimental and quantitative study was carried out, working with a total of 310 children under 10 years of age treated at the Shushufindi Municipal Center for Solidarity Social Responsibility. As results it is highlighted that 53.1% (CI95%: 47.4% - 58.7%) were male, in the age groups, 38.6% (CI95%: 33.1% - 44.2%) were between 0 and 3 years old, followed by 28% (CI95%: 23.1% - 33.3%) between 4 and 6 years old, while 57.6% (CI95%: 51.9% - 63.1%) of the children live in rural areas. Parasitosis occurred in 60.5% (CI95%: 54.8% - 65.9%) of children and anemia in 42.4% (CI95%: 36.9% - 48.1%), in addition, the chi square test showed that there is no relationship between the variables. In conclusion, constant monitoring of children with respect to parasitosis and anemia is necessary.
