Abstract

Chronic kidney disease occurs when the kidneys lose the ability to remove excess fluid, electrolytes and wastes from the blood. Anemia is a common pathology among patients with chronic kidney disease, being the basis of many of the symptoms related to decreased renal function that is associated with increased mortality and hospitalizations. The objective of the research was to determine anemia and chronic kidney disease in dialysis patients attending Metrodial Chone. The study presented a quantitative approach methodology, the type of study was observational, correlational, retrospective and cross-sectional design. As results, 112 patients dialyzed for chronic kidney disease were obtained, in them hemoglobin values were studied, where 84.4% presented low levels resulting in anemia, in addition, with the renal profile, urea, creatinine and BUN presented high levels, while electrolytes, most presented normal values. Finally, the spearman test was used to correlate hemoglobin levels with renal profile and electrolytes, in which there was no relationship between the variables. It was concluded that anemia is a common disease in patients with chronic kidney disease and they are closely related by some mechanisms. This causes hemoglobin levels to remain below normal. However, anemia does not always present a relationship in the renal profile or with electrolytes.
