Abstract

This review article offers an in-depth exploration of the interrelationship between chronic disease and extreme poverty, shedding light on the complexities and underlying mechanisms of this two-way relationship. Through comprehensive research analysis and multidisciplinary studies, the effects of chronic diseases on the population living in extreme poverty are examined and how, in turn, conditions of poverty can increase the risk and burden of chronic diseases. Vulnerability factors are identified, such as lack of access to quality health care services, malnutrition, and poor housing conditions, which can amplify the cycle of disease and poverty. In addition, the economic and social implications of this relationship are explored, including decreased labor productivity and limited access to educational and employment opportunities. Throughout the article, the need for comprehensive approaches that combine strategies for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases with interventions aimed at improving the socioeconomic conditions of people living in extreme poverty is advocated. The article underlines the importance of collaboration between the health, development and political sectors to effectively address this cycle of adversity. Ultimately, the article highlights the need for policies and programs that simultaneously address chronic diseases and extreme poverty, recognizing that their interaction not only has individual impacts, but is also a public health and socioeconomic development challenge that demands integrated solutions. and sustainable.
