Glaucoma and diabetes
Keywords:
Glaucoma, diabetes, eye healthAbstract
This document discusses the complex and multifaceted relationship between diabetes and glaucoma. Although the evidence of this association is not yet conclusive, it is observed that patients with diabetes have a high risk of developing glaucoma. Multiple pathways through which diabetes may contribute to the development of glaucoma are explored. We discuss how certain elements of diabetes might exert effects on glaucoma progression, emphasizing the significant role diabetes plays in adverse outcomes after glaucoma surgery. The importance of early detection and proper management of diabetes in the prevention and control of glaucoma is determined, and how a comprehensive approach to both conditions could be beneficial for the ocular health of diabetic patients. To improve clinical care and quality of life for those facing this double burden of chronic disease, further research is required to better understand the underlying mechanisms and interactions between these two diseases.
