Anemia as a prognostic factor for academic performance in young adults aged 19-25 in La Union parish

Academic performance is one of the important outcomes that educational systems seek to improve, anemia is recognized as a highly prevalent problem worldwide in poor and developing countries, and this can be an important determinant of school results. The objective of the study was to analyze anemia as a predictor of academic performance in young adults aged 19-25 years from La Union Parish. The study was analytical descriptive or observational cross-sectional, 41 young adults between 19 and 25 years were studied, a biometry and an exam from the National Institute of Educational Evaluation were performed. The study showed the prevalence of anemia 12.20%, regarding the academic performance of young adults 2.4% have excellent performance, 12.2% have very good performance, 31.7% regular, and 53.7% is insufficient, resulting in half of the population having insufficient performance. It was concluded that young adults who did not present anemia had higher percentages of academic performance and young people with anemia had lower levels of performance, although according to the statistical results, there is no relationship between academic performance and anemia.
