Lipid profile and its relationship whit dietary patterns in inhabitants of Jipijapa Canton

The research was conducted to analyze the relationship between lipid profile and dietary patterns in the inhabitants of Jipijapa canton. We sought to understand how different dietary patterns influence blood lipid levels. The main objective was to analyze the relationship between lipid profile and dietary patterns in this population. The hypothesis posed that people following a Western diet have lower levels of high-density lipoproteins and higher levels of low-density lipoproteins and triglycerides compared to those following a Mediterranean diet. The methodology used was a descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective, explanatory-level, descriptive research design, consisting of the analysis of an anonymized database with a population of 1623 patients attended and a sample of 310 who met the inclusion criteria. The main results indicated a predominance of hypercaloric and glycemic diets, associated with elevated levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoproteins, which increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. In contrast, those who followed a normocaloric diet presented normal lipid values. These findings suggest the need for nutritional interventions to improve the lipid profile of the population. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between dietary patterns and lipid profile. Diets high in calories and sugars contribute to lipid imbalances, which highlights the importance of healthy eating habits to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
