Diabetes mellitus is a chronic pathology that causes worldwide concern, this is based on the elevation of glucose levels in the bloodstream, a pathology that occurs due to the lack or decrease of insulin in the blood, which is a hormone created by the pancreas. The purpose of this study was to identify the biochemical markers predisposing to diabetes mellitus in adults treated in the Kamilla laboratory. This study applied a non-experimental, descriptive-analytical cross-sectional methodology with a retrospective-qualitative approach in a sample of 351 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study and the anonymization of the data, working with the SPSS version 27 program for better management of the results. The results identified a variable prevalence of biochemical markers, with some measurements ranging from 42.7% to 61.5% of diabetic patients, with high basal glucose, postprandial glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin levels indicating inadequate glycemic control, In addition, the existence of positive correlations between biochemical markers was 52.5 and 73.9 respectively, suggesting that the increase of one of these markers is involved in the increase of the other markers. It is concluded that there is a high prevalence of diabetes mellitus and they highlight the need for better glycemic control, therefore, continuous monitoring together with educational programs are the best strategies to decrease the prevalence levels of diabetes mellitus.
