Abstract

In patients with type 2 diabetes, there are studies showing that these infections caused by enterobacteria and other uropathogens remain prevalent, due to their vulnerability to the disease itself. The objective of the study was to evaluate urinary tract infections in patients suffering from type II diabetes mellitus in the parish of El Anegado. The methodology used consisted of a quantitative, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional cohort design; the type of sample was simple random, the sample was 100 patients. Results: By urine culture were identified 2 species of Escherichia coli (17%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (6%, susceptibility to Escherichia coli showed 13 strains resistance to Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, 1 strain was intermediate, amikacin 12 sensitive strains and 5 strains intermediate and higher resistance to Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and cephalotin the predisposing factors of the urinary tract were urinary incontinence, diseases in the urinary tract and previous urinary tract procedure, presented the value p <0.000 * as significant risk factors for this type of infection in diabetic patients. Conclusion: Escherichia coli was the most identified enterobacteria in urinary tract infections in diabetic patients with a high resistance to Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, in addition to predisposing factors with statistical significance such as urinary incontinence.
