Abstract

Spirituality in critical care is essential to addressing the patient's comprehensive well-being. Its integration improves the quality of care and health outcomes. The objective of this research is to analyze scientific evidence supporting spirituality as a key component in the care of critically ill patients, highlighting its impact on the comprehensive care process and its implications for clinical practice. A qualitative study was conducted with a descriptive, literature review-type design. Twenty-one articles were analyzed using non-probability convenience sampling, using the Boolean operators AND and OR in the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. Critical review and an inductive approach were applied for the analysis. Spirituality is essential in critical care, improving the emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being of both individuals and nursing professionals. However, the study demonstrated that challenges such as insufficient training and structural barriers that limit its effective integration into clinical practice persist.
