Renal dysfunction, characterized by reduced kidney function, causes a decrease in diuresis, where the action of Cystatin C within the glomerular filtration rate was characterized by its superior performance to creatinine because it is constantly produced and freely filtered by the kidney. The general objective of the study was to assess the usefulness of Cystatin C in renal dysfunction and identification of risk factors: a path towards preventive medicine in inhabitants of the Jipijapa city where an observational study methodology was applied, of a descriptive cross-sectional type, patients from 55 to 59 years old were included, obtaining a total of 50 participants. The results showed a predominance of females, with a total of 100% being over 55 years of age. Cystatin C values showed that 5 patients (11.11%) had elevated levels between 0.58 and 1.09 mg/l. Renal function associated with cystatin C levels showed that 88% of patients of both sexes were within the normal range. However, 6% had cases of severe decline, and 2% suffered from kidney failure. It was concluded that the different stages of kidney disease vary significantly by age. There are also differences in geographic distribution associated with kidney health, making constant monitoring necessary in older adults.
