Abstract

The COVI-19 pandemic represented a public health problem, leading to short- and long-term complications, especially presenting sequelae in those patients who had a previous infection.  The aim of the study was to identify and provide follow-up of post-COVID-19 sequelae and hematological intervention in vulnerable populations aged 50 to 65 years, with a descriptive, observational, prospective, cross-sectional methodology, in 96 patients with previous post-COVID-19 infection. The results indicated that the age group was between 60 and 65 years (41.7%), with a greater predominance of the female sex (53.1%). Hypertension was present in 40.6% and only 4.2% were overweight, while the most frequent morbidities were cardiovascular disease (29.2%), diabetes mellitus (10.4%) and renal disease (7.3%). Most of the hematological parameters were within the established range, however, 6.3% presented anemia, 30.2% elevated MCV, 3.1% low MCCH, as for white blood cells, 15.6% leukopenia, 1% leukocytosis, on the other hand, 11.5% had neutropenia, neutrophilia 1.0%, monocytosis 24.0%, lymphocytosis 4.2%. As for platelets, 3.1% thrombocytopenia and 2.1% thrombocytosis. About 209 people received medical care. There were sequelae related to arthralgia, headache, depression, insomnia, arrhythmias. It is concluded that, in spite of finding hematological, neuropsychiatric and osteomyoarticular sequelae in lower frequency, continuous follow-up should be carried out in the most vulnerable populations in the Southern Zone of Manabí.
