Cystatin C in renal dysfunction and to identify risk factors in people aged 50 to 54 years

Cystatin C has become highly relevant in the clinical setting as a sensitive and accurate marker for the early detection of renal dysfunction. This makes it a valuable tool for identifying renal abnormalities in the early stages. Its use improves the diagnosis, monitoring, and prognosis of renal diseases, facilitating timely interventions that can delay progression to advanced chronic kidney disease. The aim of the study was to assess the usefulness of cystatin C in renal dysfunction and to identify risk factors in people aged 50 to 54 years. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional methodology was applied, with a universe of 29,653 inhabitants and a sample of 380 patients treated at the Hospital de Jipijapa. In addition, the results showed that 12% of the clinical subjects evaluated had elevated cystatin C levels, which is a sign of possible renal dysfunction. This study specifically reflected the early diagnosis of kidney damage in clinical subjects with hypertension, diabetes, or overweight. In conclusion, cystatin C is a valuable tool for identifying kidney disorders in their early stages, even when creatinine levels are still within the normal range. Its use improves the diagnosis, monitoring, and prognosis of kidney disease, facilitating timely interventions that can delay the progression to advanced chronic kidney disease.
