The rotavirus rapid test is a rapid-response immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of rotavirus in human fecal samples, as an aid in the diagnosis of rotavirus infection. Rotavirus is the most common agent responsible for acute gastroenteritis, mainly in young children. The objective of the research was to investigate rotavirus through rapid tests and its association with gastrointestinal infections in patients treated at the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute Jipijapa 2023. The methodology applied was cross-sectional, non-experimental, analytical, in addition to being a retrospective minimum risk study. The results highlight that the prevalence reported in our research of rotavirus in 100 patients of which 30% (95% CI: 21.20 - 40.00%) were positive cases, and 70% (95% CI: 60, 00 - 78.80%) were negative cases for rotavirus. The reported prevalence of gastrointestinal infections in 100 patients of which 33% (95%CI: 23.90 – 43.10%) were positive cases, and 67% (95%CI: 56.90 – 76.10%) were negative cases for gastrointestinal infections. Of the 30 rotavirus positive patients, 57.6% which is equivalent to 19 patients had gastrointestinal infections, while 16.4% which is equivalent to 11 patients had no association with gastrointestinal infections. With this, it is concluded that rotavirus has a remarkable prevalence of 30% in patients treated in the study facility.
