Abstract

Urinary tract infections are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, with or without symptoms, and are most common (80%-90%). The study focused on a potential significant relationship with the anaerobic bacterium Gardnerella vaginalis in sex workers, a problem that has been little explored in this population. The objective of this study was to analyze urinary tract infections and their relationship with Gardnerella vaginalis in sex workers attending the Jipijapa Health Center. A quantitative methodology was employed, using a retrospective, cross-sectional, observational study design with minimal risk. The study population consisted of sex workers of reproductive age (18-40 years), and the sample consisted of 191 patients. A hypothetical-deductive approach was applied, considering statistical significance at p<0.05. The results showed that the most prevalent age group was 25-29 years, representing 40.8% (n=78). UTIs were diagnosed in 20.9% (n = 40) of participants. Additionally, 20.9% (n=40) of the sex workers tested positive for Gram variable cells and the amine test. The analysis of the relationship between Gram variable cells and the amine test obtained 20.9, revealing a significant relationship between urinary tract infection and markers indicative of Gardnerella vaginalis. It was concluded that there was a significant relationship between urinary tract infections and the presence of Gardnerella vaginalis in sex workers treated at the Jipijapa Health Center.
