Quality of life of physicians in the emergency department of a public hospital in Peru, 2022

Objective: To determine the perception of the quality of life of medical personnel working in the Emergency Department of Hospital III Goyeneche, Arequipa (Peru), in 2022. Methods: The study had a quantitative approach with a non-experimental observational design; the type of research was basic, descriptive and cross-sectional. The population consisted of 104 physicians working in the Emergency Department of a hospital in Peru in 2022. A non-probabilistic purposive sampling was applied, taking into consideration the entire population. After informed consent, the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was applied, and the results were tabulated and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: A general perception of positive quality of life was observed (52 %); in addition, a smaller number of physicians (9.6 %) presented dissatisfaction with their state of health. When analyzing the WHOQOL-BREF domains, it was observed that higher scores were obtained in the psychological health and physical health dimensions. Conclusions: The general perception of quality of life of most of the medical staff had a favorable trend; in that sense, the psychological dimension had a higher preponderance, above the physical dimension and the social relations dimension.
