Abstract

Sexual and reproductive health education is a fundamental component in strengthening adolescents' knowledge and capacity to make responsible decisions regarding their health. This article aimed to analyze the importance of educational strategies for enhancing knowledge of sexual and reproductive health among adolescents in rural areas of the Jipijapa canton. A study employing a qualitative, descriptive, and participatory action research approach was conducted, utilizing educational workshops, group dynamics, dialogue sessions, artistic activities, and the participatory development of educational materials. Initial results revealed knowledge gaps regarding contraceptive methods, risk perception concerning sexually transmitted infections, and the identification of specific risk behaviors. Furthermore, myths, feelings of shame, and fear of social judgment were identified as barriers to expressing questions and speaking openly about sexuality. Following the educational activities, improved understanding of the subject matter, greater awareness of preventive measures, and an increased willingness to participate in dialogue were observed. It is concluded that participatory educational strategies are vital tools for strengthening sexual and reproductive health knowledge, as they foster active participation, reflection, self-care, and informed decision-making among adolescents in rural communities.
