Abstract

Millions of people are affected annually by bacterial infections, they are more common in women due to several biological and anatomical factors that increase the likelihood that bacteria access and colonize the urinary tract. Microbial susceptibility, which is the ability of pathogens to be inhibited or eliminated by antibiotics, varies greatly depending on several factors, including the misuse of antibiotics. The objective of the research was to: Determine urinary tract infections and microbial susceptibility in patients of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute Hospital in Jipijapa. The universe was comprised of 300 patients and the sample was made up of 97 patients between 16 and 60 years of age with urinary tract infections. Methodology: The type of study was observational, analytical, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective. The results obtained revealed that the main causal agent was Escherichia coli with 52.7% followed by Staphylococcus with 20.6%; in the antimicrobial sensitivity of the analyzed strains the percentage was 52.7% to cephalotin, piperacillin-tazobactam followed by ceftriazone with 20.6% sensitivity, the resistance that the strains presented was to clindamycin with 62.6%; intermediate to levofloxacin and resistant to bacitracin; the age group with 52 patients was frequent in all ages with Escherichia coli. Conclusion: the most frequent causal agent in women between 29 and 52 years of age was Escherichia coli followed by Staphylococcus spp with a susceptibility to cephalotin, piperacillin-tazobactam and cetriazone.
