Role of motivation in learning english as a second language

The present research supports examining the role that motivation has in learning English as a second language (L2) based on the Ecuadorian context. The need arises to thoroughly understand the factors that motivate or demotivate Ecuadorian students in learning English to develop more effective educational strategies. This understanding allows improving educational policies, teaching methodologies and English learning results. The main objective is to analyze the influence of motivation in the process of learning English as an L2. The methodology of this study is a bibliographic review, its approach was based on a review of existing literature, including qualitative studies, incorporating relevant academic information. The findings show how to improve the acquisition of English, it is essential to develop strategies that promote both types of motivation, considering the particularities of the national context. This discovery has significant implications for the formulation of educational policies and pedagogical practices in the teaching of English in Ecuador.
