Parental responsibilities of children and their relationship to learning

Abstract

The research was guided by the following problem: How are the parental responsibilities that children must assume related to their learning?; It assumed as its objective: To determine the relationship between the parental responsibilities that children assume and their learning and was framed under the Socio-Critical paradigm, the qualitative approach, the review of a case study of three boys and three girls in sixth grade of basic school and for data collection the interview is used through a guide, mounted on a non-experimental design and supported by the inductive method; arriving at the following conclusions: In the current conditions the most important challenge that Ecuadorian families face is to guarantee economic stability, access to food, health, housing, basic services, education, among others. In the case study carried out this factor is considered key, since it is shown that this is the main cause that leads to children and adolescents having to assume parenting roles. The element that allows students to articulate parental responsibilities and learning is intrinsic motivation. They are fully aware of the economic instability that their families face and are reliable witnesses of the difficulties that their parents and themselves face in accessing the most basic resources, in the face of which their main aspiration is to finish their studies and access a job that guarantees a level of economic stability for themselves and their families. Research shows that students reach a good and even excellent level of learning construction. However, an important finding is that the development of girls' learning turns out to be significantly lower than that of boys, directly related to the parenting role that they maintain, given that boys assume this circumstance with courage and security, while girls denote a level of insecurity.
