Parenting styles and social adaptation in university students

The parenting method used by parents has a significant impact on the emotional and social development of their children. This study aims to determine the relationship between parenting styles subscales and social adaptation, so a sample of 184 students with an age range of 17 to 19 years from a university in Ecuador was used. The research had a quantitative approach of a descriptive correlational type, with a cross-sectional design. The Steinberg Parenting Styles Scale and the Self-Applicable Social Adjustment Scale (SASSS) were used to evaluate the variables. The results allowed identifying that there is a low positive correlation in the subscale of parenting styles commitment and social adaptation (Rho (182) =0.357, p<0.001), while between the subscale of psychological autonomy and social adaptation a low negative correlation was identified (Rho (182) =-0.279, p<0.001).
