Avances en las técnicas para el diagnóstico de malaria causada por Plasmodium spp

Resumen

Este artículo de revisión bibliográfica analiza los avances en el diagnóstico de la malaria, enfocándose en métodos recientes aplicados en regiones endémicas para detectar especies del género Plasmodium spp. Entre las innovaciones más destacadas se encuentra la reacción en cadena de la polimerasa digital en gotas (ddPCR), que permite la cuantificación precisa del ADN de Plasmodium en comparación con la PCR en tiempo real, aunque con limitaciones en especificidad. Además, la amplificación isotérmica mediada por bucle (LAMP) ha demostrado ser útil para el diagnóstico rápido de P. vivax y P. ovale, mientras que los enfoques serológicos como PvSeroTAT están siendo aplicados en Brasil para identificar y tratar infecciones asintomáticas, reduciendo así la transmisión. La PCR en tiempo real y técnicas como PCR-HRM hexaplex han mejorado la capacidad de diferenciar especies y detectar infecciones submicroscópicas. Estos avances representan pasos importantes hacia diagnósticos más precisos y rápidos, fundamentales para la eliminación de la malaria.
