Abstract

The idea of "eco-cities", which is increasingly relevant today, describes a vision of urban areas in the future that blend harmoniously with nature, trying to have as little negative impact on the environment as possible and improving the quality of life for those who live there. Synergistic interaction between people and their immediate surroundings is prioritized in these environmentally conscious and sustainable cities, which adhere to a holistic philosophy. Urban sustainability takes on a central role in eco-cities planning because it promotes the development of green spaces, parks and gardens that help reduce traffic and improve air quality. In order to reduce the use of natural resources and greenhouse gas emissions, buildings are designed with energy efficiency criteria. Sustainable materials and ecological technologies are used in its construction. To reduce dependence on polluting vehicles, sustainable mobility is prioritized, promoting the use of public transport, bicycles and pedestrian paths. To increase understanding of the importance of protecting local biodiversity and natural resources, community participation in environmental education is encouraged. The circular economy is promoted and damage to local ecosystems is reduced through the implementation of waste collection and recycling systems.
