Territorial sustainability and the popular economy are two interconnected ideas that are essential to create a more just and resilient society. The main objective of territorial sustainability is to keep the development of the economy, society and the environment of an area in harmony with each other. To this end, it is important to promote economic and social behavior that is respectful of the environment and that meets current needs without endangering those of future generations. Since it is based on the active participation of the local community in the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services, the popular economy emerges as a powerful tool in this situation. Support for small businesses, cooperatives, and local ventures, which promotes job creation and income generation in communities, is a defining characteristic of this economy. The integration of the popular economy with territorial sustainability allows greater citizen participation in decision-making and resource management, which strengthens the social fabric and fosters a sense of belonging and responsibility towards the local environment. This promotes inclusive and sustainable economic development where cultural identities are respected and natural resources are preserved.
