Covid-19 and adverse effects in children

Although from a medical point of view, children are not a high-risk group for COVID-19, the effects of the pandemic on them are significant, especially for those who were already in a situation of vulnerability before the crisis. The most vulnerable groups of the child population have been disproportionately impacted by the social and economic inequalities that have been exposed and exacerbated by the health emergency. Their physical, mental and emotional development has been affected by the lack of access to basic resources, the interruption of face-to-face instruction and the restriction of social interactions. The pandemic has exacerbated the problems and obstacles that these boys and girls already faced, accentuating the demand for more effective support and protection measures. In order to implement inclusive strategies and policies that reduce negative effects and promote their overall well-being, identifying and addressing their unique needs becomes a top priority. Therefore, guaranteeing access to essential services, offering emotional and educational support, and promoting equity in access to opportunities become crucial actions to safeguard this vulnerable population and ensure a more equitable and resilient future for all affected children.
