Abstract

The research that gave rise to this article answers the question How do teaching strategies for the phoneme /rr/ stimulate the development of phonological awareness of the phoneme /rr/? and aims to analyze how teaching strategies influence the mastery of phonological awareness skills for the phoneme /rr/ in fifth year students of Basic General Education. The realization of this article assumes the positivist paradigm and a qualitative and exploratory research methodology; for the collection of information on the use of strategies an observation form was used and for phonological awareness a questionnaire of open questions is used. The results obtained support that the auditory discrimination strategies, oral production strategies and phonological awareness strategies are mostly adequate, and students with difficulties in the acquisition of the phoneme /rr/ were identified. It was concluded that the acquisition of phonological competence, and in particular of the phoneme /rr/, is a complex process that requires the implementation of appropriate strategies by teachers. Research has shown that the use of varied, appropriate and effective strategies can have a positive impact on student learning; thus, the use of varied strategies is essential for learning the phoneme /rr/.
