Abstract

The purpose of the research was to analyze the development of reading in students through the use of stories as a methodological strategy, guided by the following question: How does the use of stories as a methodological strategy affect the development of reading comprehension in elementary school students? The objective was to analyze the development of reading in students through the use of stories as a methodological strategy. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, based on a descriptive design that allowed for a detailed analysis of the characteristics of the reading process in the classroom. It focused on 13 students and one teacher in the third year of basic education at the Francesco Bernardone Educational Unit, who constituted the specific case study to understand how short stories influence reading participation and comprehension. In addition, exploratory qualitative research was adopted, which is appropriate for examining educational phenomena that have been little studied in this context. The application of the inductive method allowed for the interpretation of the experiences of the teacher and students based on data obtained directly from educational practice. Direct observation and an interview guide developed according to the objectives of the study were used to collect information. The results showed that the use of stories strengthened motivation, active participation, reading comprehension, and oral and written expression.
