Teaching science through gamification: an exploration of its benefits for motivation and conceptual understanding

Abstract

The study addressed the application of gamification as a methodological approach in science teaching, with the purpose of analyzing its effects on students' motivation and conceptual understanding. Throughout the process, learning dynamics based on games, interactive challenges, and reward systems were implemented, transforming classes into more participatory and engaging experiences. The results showed that students were actively engaged in the proposed activities, which generated a favorable learning environment. The incorporation of playful elements facilitated content retention and allowed for a greater connection between theoretical concepts and practice. Furthermore, an increase in interest in the subject was evident, as well as an improvement in the disposition toward collaborative work and problem-solving. Furthermore, it was observed that gamification favored the development of cognitive and social skills, contributing to more meaningful learning. Participants demonstrated greater enthusiasm and commitment to their educational process, which strengthened their positive attitude toward science. In conclusion, gamification represented an effective pedagogical strategy to enhance both conceptual understanding and motivation in the context of science education.
