Educational innovation in Ecuadorian universities

Abstract

This scientific article addresses the topic of educational innovation in Ecuadorian universities, considering its importance within the academic and technological transformation processes currently underway in higher education. Educational innovation is a fundamental element for strengthening the quality of university teaching through the implementation of active methodologies, digital tools, virtual platforms, and pedagogical strategies focused on meaningful student learning. In the Ecuadorian context, higher education institutions have progressively incorporated Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as mechanisms that promote curricular modernization, the development of digital competencies, and the creation of more dynamic, inclusive, and interactive learning environments. The main objective of this research is to analyze the relevance of educational innovation in Ecuadorian universities and its impact on strengthening teaching and learning processes within higher education. A qualitative methodology of bibliographic document review was applied for the study, based on the analysis of scientific articles, indexed journals, academic research, and specialized documents related to educational innovation, digital technologies, and Ecuadorian university education. The results show that educational innovation contributes significantly to improving academic quality, strengthening research, and increasing student participation; however, challenges related to the digital divide, limited technological infrastructure, and the need for ongoing teacher training remain. In conclusion, educational innovation represents a strategic focus for the development of Ecuadorian universities, as it promotes more efficient and relevant training processes adapted to the scientific, technological, and social demands of the 21st century.
