The performance and general well-being of students in disadvantaged communities can be affected by the physical and aesthetic condition of schools. Unfortunately, inadequate educational infrastructure is often underfunded in the most underdeveloped areas. This document analyzes the relationship between school design and extreme poverty, emphasizing the need for adequate learning environments in underserved areas. To that end, several studies were reviewed showing how the physical and aesthetic conditions of schools have a significant impact on the academic performance and general well-being of students from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds. Despite the evidence showing the beneficial effects of school design on student achievement, the most underserved areas lacked investment and attention in this area. To address this problem and reduce educational inequality, a higher level of collaboration and investment in education is suggested.
